Baby Rubber Tree
Peperomia obtusifolia
Peperomia obtusifolia is a compact, upright perennial that grows to about 12 inches with waxy, broadly elliptic dark green leaves that have a polished look reminiscent of a rubber plant — hence the name. It is one of the most beginner-friendly houseplants available, tolerating a range of light conditions and forgiving the occasional missed watering with grace. Variegated cultivars with cream, gray, or gold-flecked foliage are widely available and just as easy to grow as the straight species.
