Zonata
Neoregelia zonata
Neoregelia zonata is a compact bromeliad growing 8-10 inches tall with stiff yellowish-green leaves banded in rust-brown, forming a neat tubular rosette with a central water-holding cup. It is a particularly prolific pupper, readily forming clumps, and the center flushes deeper color as it prepares to bloom. As a 'true species' rather than a hybrid, it has a clean botanical identity that collectors tend to appreciate.

Fun Facts
In terrariums and vivariums, Neoregelia zonata is a popular choice for poison dart frog enclosures -- the frogs lay eggs on the leaves and deposit tadpoles in the water-filled cup, while the plant recycles nutrients from their waste products. It is a genuinely cooperative relationship.
