Crossandra
Crossandra infundibuliformis
Crossandra infundibuliformis is an evergreen subshrub that earns its 'firecracker' nickname twice over: the funnel-shaped, asymmetrical flowers in shades of orange, salmon, and yellow are showy enough on their own, and then the seed pods literally explode under humid conditions to scatter seeds around. Indoors it grows to about 30–60 cm and blooms reliably from spring through autumn, making it one of the more dependably floriferous tropical houseplants available.

Fun Facts
In South India, Crossandra flowers (called Kanakambaram) have been strung into garlands for temple offerings and women's hair ornaments for centuries — a single garland can stay fresh for 12–15 hours, which is part of why the flowers are so prized in the South Indian floriculture trade.
