V2 is live. We rebuilt the site from scratch, and honestly it was overdue.
The old version had some solid plant info buried under a lot of friction. Slow pages, a design that aged poorly, and care guides full of phrases like “bright indirect light” and “water when the soil feels dry” - which is to say, advice that sounds helpful and isn’t. We got rid of all of it.
What’s new
222 plants documented with real care data
Every species page has actual numbers: light intensity in foot-candles, watering frequency by season, humidity ranges, temperature tolerances. Not “moderate light.” Not “keep moist.” Real measurements you can act on. Each care profile cites its sources, so you can verify anything that seems off.
A complete design overhaul
The new site has an animated hero section, botanical SVG illustrations drawn for this project, and interactive care cards that surface the most useful info without requiring you to scroll through a wall of text. It loads fast and works on any screen size without feeling like a compromise.
Privacy-first, for real
No Google Analytics. No Facebook Pixel. No ad networks. No cookies beyond your dark mode preference, which lives in localStorage and never leaves your device. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and gives us only aggregate counts. If you check the page source, there’s nothing in there phoning home to anyone. That’s the whole policy.
Free tier, forever
The entire stack runs on Cloudflare’s free tier - Pages, D1 database, R2 storage. No paid infrastructure, no VC runway, no ads to run when the bills come due. The site exists because plants are interesting and good information about them should be free.
Local nursery partnerships
We’re based in Columbus, OH, and we’re working with local nurseries to make sure the information here reflects what you can actually get your hands on, not just what’s photogenic on social media. If a species is rare or commonly mislabeled in the trade, we say so. If the popular variety is genuinely harder to find than the species, we say that too.
Coming soon
The shop is almost ready. We’re starting with plants propagated locally in Columbus - nothing dropshipped, nothing we haven’t grown ourselves. When it opens, it’ll be small and deliberately so. We’d rather have 20 plants we can vouch for than 200 we can’t.
Guides are live. The care guide section covers the practical stuff: building soil mixes with actual ratios, understanding what light labels actually mean, propagation methods that work versus methods that look good on TikTok.
If you find something wrong on a plant page - bad care data, missing info, a source that doesn’t check out - use the contact form. We’d rather fix it than defend it.
Thanks for being here early.
